Former EY managing partner for the North of England and Scotland, Simon Allport, has joined the Advisory Committee of Tosca Debt Capital (TDC) as an independent member.

Allport, who retired from EY in June 2017, brings more than 30 years’ corporate finance experience to the regional debt fund, which includes serving as a partner with Arthur Andersen.

The latest appointment for TDC sees Allport join its Advisory Committee alongside Dave Allanson, ex-Lloyds Bank Regional Head.

TDC has invested c.£70m of growth capital into UK regional businesses over the last few months from its Fund II, having fully invested Fund I during 2016/17.

Gary Davison, partner at TDC, explains: “We are delighted that Simon has joined our Advisory Committee. He has exceptional corporate finance experience and his knowledge and connections throughout the North of England will benefit the business in a myriad of ways.

“Simon will guide and support the team in our strategic growth and investment decisions, leveraging his 30+ years’ of transactional experience working with fast growth businesses and regional private equity, banking and legal communities.”

Allport is also chairman of Business Finance Solutions, a local Government backed not-for-profit organisation, which to-date, has lent more than £91m to UK businesses unable to obtain funding through mainstream lenders.

He also served as a member of the CBI’s North West Regional Council and the North West Business Leadership Team – an independent group of influential business leaders who collectively promote the long-term wellbeing and sustainability of the region.

Allport added: “TDC has grown rapidly into a leading player in the northern corporate finance scene. Its team is ambitious and really understands the needs of growing business, especially the financial barriers that can often hold them back. I look forward to working closely with them and playing a part in the business’ next phase of growth.”
