TDC shines bright with Mummy’s Star to support unique cancer charity
Tosca Debt Capital (TDC) has partnered with North West-based charity, Mummy’s Star, to raise awareness and funds for women and their families affected by cancer during pregnancy and those diagnosed within 12 months of giving birth.
Mummy’s Star is the only charity of its kind in the UK and Ireland dedicated to supporting this unique cause. It was formed in 2013 by CEO Pete Wallroth in memory of his wife, Mair, who at 22 weeks pregnant with their second child was diagnosed with cancer and began chemotherapy. Despite giving birth to a healthy baby boy named Merlin, Mair sadly passed away three months later.
Mummy’s Star bridges the gap between the information and advice available for expectant parents and cancer sufferers, and supports women and their families through peer support and financial aid when the two life changing events happen simultaneously.
Pete and his team have helped hundreds of families that have found themselves in the same unimaginable situation. Its primary focus is supporting expectant or new mothers who are undergoing treatment for cancer, as well as providing help and guidance for fathers and other family members impacted by the diagnosis.
Richard Williams, Partner at TDC comments: “With a regional focus that stretches predominantly across the Northern Powerhouse, we felt it only fitting that we supported a North West charity with a national reach and focus that is similarly niche.
“The charity’s work resonates with all of us at TDC as we have a number of parents in our team and many personal and family experiences of parents and loved ones lost to cancer. Yet Pete’s story is particularly poignant for me as we were classmates in senior school, sitting next to one another from day one through alphabetical order.
“We’re looking forward to working with Pete and his team to raise awareness and donations. We’ll also be using our own business knowledge and collective skills to support the charity’s mission in reaching a position where all woman diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or post-birth in the UK and Ireland are referred to Mummy’s Star and can access the fantastic support that the charity offers.”
Pete Wallroth, founder and CEO of Mummy’s Star, added: “We’re delighted to be joining up with the team at Tosca to further the charity and its work. It’s been clear from the off that they are touched by the background and the work that we do. Already, they are helping us think in a new direction not only in how we are reaching out to people but also working smarter as an organisation. Even at this early stage there are opportunities that will really benefit many of our families.”
